SIX TENNIS PLAYERS DETAINED IN MATCH-FIXING INVESTIGATION

Spanish government have detained 34 persons, together with six tennis players, involved in a tennis match-fixing network that made more than $500,000 from lower-tier tournaments in Spain and Portugal.


Police stated Thursday that operation Futures probed numerous futures and challenger tournaments for the past several months and observed proof that effects had been rigged.

The tennis players have been not identified, but government said they have been ranked among number 800 and 1,200 in the world. Their Spanishrankings ranged between Nos. 30 and 300.

Police stated they located evidence of match-fixing attempts in 17 men’s tournaments in five towns, such as Madrid, Seville and Porto.

Authorities stated the two alleged leaders of the community have been amongst those detained across 12 Spanish towns. The leaders have been primarily based in Seville and La Coruna. All the ones detained had been Spaniards and are expected to remain free pending trial. If convicted of corruption in sports, they may face jail sentences of as much as four years.

The investigation commenced after a tip given with the aid of a player to the tennis integrity unit, the sport’s anti-corruption body.

Serena Williams says she also feels nervousness

Serena Williams says she also feels nervousness like anyone else, but, with the experience that she has gained over the years, she has now got the idea how to keep the emotions in check and focus on the job in hand.

Serena appears to be pretty calm whenever she is on the court and people reckon it’s one of her qualities which has helped her win so many games and titles, but, as per the veteran herself, she actually does not happen to be as calm as it, maybe, looks from outside. She battles with her own jitters.

Speaking to an American news network recently, Serena said, “I think you must see me practicing once. I don’t think I am that calm and relaxed. Of course, when you spend this much of time playing on the tour, you learn a lot of things one of which is how to carry yourself on and off the court. Marin Cilic is eyeing another Grand Slam

Marin Cilic is looking to add one more to his Slam titles’ tally this year. Cilic has just had one Slam title under his belt which he had clinched the previous season, getting better of Kei Nishikori at Flushing Meadows.
